On July 27, 1730, Franciscan missionaries combined three east Texas missions, in operation since 1721, and moved them to the southern banks of the Colorado River in Austin under the name San José de los Nazonis.
St. John the Evangelist Parish in Marble Falls has taken to heart its designation as a pilgrimage site for the Diocese of Austin’s 75th anniversary celebration.
Dedicated in 1958 while Bishop Louis Reicher was bishop of Austin, the historic Leuders Limestone and granite-trimmed Chancery proudly sits at 1600 Congress in Austin.
“My hope and my prayer is that we are able to understand and connect to this void, this hurt, this hunger that we as the body of Christ have,” he said. “Jesus knows we are hungry and he wants to satisfy that hunger for us,” he said.
Pope Francis has granted the faithful the opportunity to obtain two plenary indulgences for the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Diocese of Austin.
